Toledo Public Schools says it immediately removed the employee after becoming aware of the incident and contacted Lucas County Children Services.
TOLEDO, Ohio — A paraprofessional has been suspended without pay for “actions toward a student” at Garfield Elementary School, according to Toledo Public Schools.
In a statement to WTOL 11, TPS called the alleged incident “deeply concerning” but did not provide details of what occurred.
TPS said after becoming aware of the incident, the district immediately removed the employee and contacted Lucas County Children Services.
According to the district, the employee, who was not identified, is suspended without pay, and an investigation is now underway.

“Toledo Public Schools is aware of a deeply concerning incident involving a paraprofessional’s actions toward a student at Garfield Elementary. When we became aware of the situation, the district swiftly took action, immediately removing the employee and contacting Lucas County Children’s Services. The employee is suspended without pay and a thorough investigation is underway at this time. The district takes all matters impacting student safety seriously. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with district policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of professionalism and student care are upheld in our schools.”
