According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, two juveniles were injured in the crash.
PUTNAM COUNTY, Ohio — One person was killed and three were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Putnam County Monday evening.
According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), 32-year-old Erica Shafer, of Continental, Ohio, was driving a vehicle south on County Road 21 in Monroe Township at approximately 8:25 p.m. Authorities claimed in a press release that Shafer failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 21 and State Route 15.
Shafer then struck a Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling east on SR 15.
Both vehicles traveled off the roadway and struck a utility pole, traffic sign and junction box, OSHP said. Shafer was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, OSHP said in the release, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban and the vehicle’s two juvenile passengers, who OSHP said were wearing seatbelts, were transported to a hospital via ambulance. Their injuries in the release were described as being serious in the press release.
The intersection of CR 21 and SR 15 was closed for two hours while crews investigated the crash, OSHP said.
According to OSHP, alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash.
