A 33-year-old woman from the Delta area died in a head-on crash Tuesday in Lenawee County. Her daughter and the other driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — A woman from the Delta, Ohio area died Tuesday afternoon after a head-on crash on US-12 in Franklin Township, according to the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 12:09 p.m. just east of Mull Highway. Deputies said the woman was driving westbound on US-12 when she crossed the center line and struck a vehicle traveling eastbound.
Authorities said that the initial investigation indicates that the woman, identified as being 33 years old, may have fallen asleep at the wheel. She was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated following the crash. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her 12-year-old daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
The other driver, a 32-year-old woman from the Onsted area, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her leg.
It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. All individuals involved were wearing seat belts.
Emergency crews from the Cambridge Township Police Department, Sand Lake Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department, Huron Valley Ambulance, the Lenawee County Crash Investigation Team, Drone Team and Medical Examiner’s Office all responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
