Teams from Ohio State Highway Patrol and ODNR continue recovery work along Guadalupe River after catastrophic flooding.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio first responders are in Texas assisting with recovery efforts following catastrophic flash flooding that struck the region last week.
According to a statement released Friday by Gov. Mike DeWine, personnel from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are working alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety. The teams are operating in three units along the Guadalupe River, where floodwaters caused severe damage, especially near Camp Mystic.
Ohio’s deployment includes several ODNR K-9 teams trained in search, rescue and recovery operations. The crews have been facing extreme heat conditions during their mission.
“I couldn’t be more proud of those who volunteered for this mission,” DeWine said in the statement. “Troopers tell me that the enormity of the destruction is unlike anything they’ve ever seen, especially in the area near Camp Mystic, but they remain motivated to do all they can to help.”
DeWine added that he and First Lady Fran DeWine continue to pray for those impacted.
No information was released on how long the Ohio teams will remain in Texas.
