North Toledo safety issues

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Parents who live in the north end of Toledo say they’re on high alert after three kids claim a man reportedly tried to grab them.

Toledo Police confirmed they received at least one 911 call, but there is no formal police report yet.

The Davis family said their son was walking home from a boxing gym when a stranger tried to grab him on Sherman near Walnut. 10-year-old Daquan Davis Jr. said he dropped his inhaler and turned around to look for it.

”When I picked it up, the person out of nowhere just grabbed my book bag. I just turned around and he tried to get me, but I ran,” said Daquan Davis Jr.

He called his mom.

”He was just screaming. ‘Mom, someone tried to kidnap me.’ I ran out of the house and I’m running down the street and I see him coming toward me. Thank God for that,” said Shavania Davis.

The boy couldn’t describe the suspect but told me the guy got away with his book bag.

“We went back to where it happened at and his book bag was leaning up against the gate like. Whoever it was or whatever they were doing, they weren’t trying to rob him or see what he had in his book bag. His book bag was there a zipped up with everything in it,” said Daquan Davis Sr.

It happened on Tuesday, a little after 7 p.m.

Daquan’s parents called 911. A Toledo police crew came out today around 1 a.m. to talk to the family. A spokesperson said the officers did not take a report but advised the father on how to file a police report.

“He won’t be walking on his own no more so,” said Daquan’s father.

In a completely separate incident in the same area — just blocks away. 9-year-old Taliah Lipscomb and her 7-year-old sister were playing on the trampoline in their backyard when they say a strange man approached them from the alley.

They said the man made up a story saying “their grandma sent him to get them.”

“He said that our granny was Miss T, but that’s not her name,” said Taliah Lipscomb.

It happened on the 1300 block of Moore Street. The girls say they were scared.

”He was tall. He put his leg on it and we like move and I sprayed my mace,” said Taliah Lipscomb.

They ran into the house and told their grandma. Their aunt said Taliah had mace for good reason.

“Actually, we had given a few of them mace for a situation prior to this. A bullying situation. So, luckily, she had it on her at the time,” said Kanees Carlos.

Daquan’s parents filed a police report on Wednesday. They hope detectives will review video in the area near Sherman school.
