Lambertville, MI (WTVG) – Richard Kenny has a lot of restaurant supplies.
“I have cookie makers, I have ice cream machines,” said Kenny, owner of Forest View Lanes and Quimby’s in Bedford Township, MI.
Over the years, Kenny has bought and never used or phased out items from his businesses. Now, they’re all taking up space inside storage containers.
It’s what those in the restaurant industry call “dead stock.”
“Restaurants, food trucks, wineries, breweries, everybody has excess inventory,” said Jeremy Fitzgerald, owner of Fast Eddie’s Sports Park in Port Clinton.
Fitzgerald, who spent years in the restaurant industry, spent the past three years developing an app: 86DeadStock.
“Basically, think of Poshmark, think of Etsy, think of Sideline Swap, but for the hospitality industry,” said Fitzgerald. “There’s glassware, vinyl gloves, and all of these are items that are sitting on someone’s shelves.”
Restaurants or hotels can upload items they bought but never used, and list them at a discounted price. The app lets you search by radius, so you can pick up what you buy and skip the shipping fee.
It also lets you send out a notice to other sellers when you need an item right away, and it requires those businesses to verify they’re real.
“Anybody can buy, but it protects the buyer knowing that they’re buying it from a legit business,” added Fitzgerald.
The app is free to use. You can download it for Apple or Google Play through this link: https://86deadstock.com/
