FRENCHTOWN TWP., Mich. (WTVG) – A Monroe man is dead after he was hit by a train on Wednesday.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Moore, 36, of Monroe, Michigan died in the incident. Authorities said it happened at the CSX Rail Line that crosses over Mall Road between Telegraph and Monroe Street around 1:20 p.m. on Nov. 27.
Investigators said Moore was jogging west on Mall Road, crossing over the rail line, past the crossing gates while they were down and displaying the red warning lights. He approached the gate, turned around, and started to jog east instead. That’s when he was hit by a southbound train.
Officials said the train came to a controlled stop. A statement from the sheriff’s office said it’s unknown whether alcohol was involved in the incident.
