Metroparks Toledo said the water play area sustained mechanical and electrical equipment damage.
TOLEDO, Ohio — A water play area at the Glass City Metropark will be closed for the rest of the season, Metroparks Toledo said in a press release Friday.
The Mini Maumee area sustained what the Metroparks said was “extensive damage” to its mechanical and electrical equipment during flooding last week. A spokesperson said an underground mechanical room that circulates the facility’s water was “inundated” with 12 to 15 feet of water on Monday due to a mechanical failure.
The closure will allow Metroparks Toledo to repair the damage, which Metroparks Toledo said will involve the replacement of all the equipment. Repairs will not be fast enough to reopen the play area before the end of summer, Metroparks Toledo said.
However, the other nearby water play features, the Raintowers and Misting Boulders, remain open daily. Other areas of the park are not affected.
Metroparks Toledo said the Mini Maumee is expected to reopen next spring.
“The timing could not be worse, and we apologize to all the kids and parents who have enjoyed the Mini Maumee since it opened two years ago,” said Scott Carpenter, director of public relations for Metroparks Toledo, in the press release. “We are working with experts to make the repairs and plan to reopen next spring.”
Metroparks Toledo also said it did not yet have an estimate for the cost of repairs.
