TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Mercy Health has announced plans to open a new transplant center at St. Vincent Medical Center this fall.
The hospital says the new Mercy Health Toledo Transplant Center will help expand access to life-saving transplants for people across northwest Ohio.
“The Mercy Health Toledo Transplant Center strengthens our region’s capacity for life-saving transplant care while bringing together a highly skilled team to support patients every step of the way. It is also a pivotal step forward for our broader health care ministry, as we establish the first solid organ transplant program in the Bon Secours Mercy Health system,” said Paul Clemments, Vice President of Service Lines, at Mercy Health Toledo.
Mercy Health Toledo is part of Bon Secours Mercy Health and locally serves 20 counties in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
Mercy Health Toledo Transplant Center will be led by transplant surgeon Johnny Hong, M.D. He joined Mercy Health last year to grow the health system’s hepatobiliary and transplant programs.
“We have assembled an exceptional team; each member deeply committed to providing the highest level of transplantation care for our patients. Organ transplantation is the definitive life-saving treatment for those suffering from advanced organ diseases, and the Mercy Health Toledo Transplantation Center brings this expertise to our community,” said Dr. Hong.
According to Mercy Health, patients will receive care from a multidisciplinary team of board-certified transplant surgeons, nephrologists, nurse coordinators, financial coordinators, dieticians, pharmacists and social workers to guide them through their transplant journey.
