TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A man has been arrested after he allegedly left his young children home alone and then assaulted officers during his arrest.
According to court documents, on April 26, Malik Smith allegedly left his 2-year-old and 4-year-old sons home alone at 1:20 a.m. for an unknown amount of time. Officers found one of the children outside yelling for help and telling police “I can’t find my daddy.” Police also observed hazards in the house that put the children at risk.
Smith was arrested shortly after and while on their way to the Lucas County Jail, police say Smith threatened to harm one of the officers and his family. Records show he also stated “I’ma find your family” and “I’ma kill your kids.”
When officers attempted to get Smith out of the police vehicle, he allegedly kicked an officer in the chest and made several physical threats.
Smith is facing charges of Endangering Children, Aggravated Menacing and Assault on a Peace Officer.
