OREGON, Ohio (WTVG) – A man was arrested on Tuesday after police say he yelled at a construction worker then proceeded to hit him with his car twice while in traffic.
On April 1, Oregon Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of S. Coy Road for reports of a disorderly driver. While enroute to the scene, officers were told that a construction worker had been hit by a vehicle.
After arriving, the construction worker told officers he was standing in the road holding a stop sign because crews were working on the road. He had northbound traffic stopped and a man in the first vehicle that was stopped began blaring his horn and swearing at the worker before attempting to drive around him.
According to OPD, the construction worked allegedly stepped in front of the car, because there was oncoming traffic in the other lane, and the man drove forward and hit the construction worker with his car. The man then began yelling again before allegedly driving forward and hitting the construction worker a second time with his car.
The man then drove off northbound on S. Coy Road and the construction worker, who was not injured, took down the car’s license plate and description.
OPD says shortly after, officers located the vehicle at Eastwyck Apartments and arrested the driver, Kenneth Shinaver, 61, on the following charges:
- Felonious Assault, a second-degree felony
- Assault on a Peace Officer, a fourth-degree felony
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, a fourth-degree felony
- OVI Within 20 Years of a Prior Offense, a fourth-degree felony
- Resisting Arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor
- Obstructing Official Business, a second-degree misdemeanor
A judge set his aggregate bond at $178,000 at no percent. Shinaver is due back in court on April 4.
