Keith Johnson, the 47-year-old accused of the robbery, died by suicide from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the coroner’s office.
TOLEDO, Ohio — The Lucas County Coroner’s Office has released the autopsy report for a man who was found dead at the scene of a bank robbery in Point Place last week.
Keith Johnson, the 47-year-old accused of the robbery, died by suicide from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the coroner’s office.
Johnson was found dead inside the KeyBank on Suder Avenue just before 6 p.m., about two hours and 20 minutes after law enforcement responded to the scene in the Shoreland neighborhood for a reported armed robbery. The coroner’s office conducted the autopsy on Monday.
According to a Toledo police report, “employees were inside” the bank with an armed person when officers arrived at the scene Friday afternoon. Authorities shut down parts of Suder and Shoreland avenues while negotiators came to the scene.
It is not known at this time how many employees were inside the bank with Johnson.
A bomb squad and investigative services also responded to the scene after Johnson was found dead inside, according to police.
A regional spokesperson for KeyBank said on Friday that the company is actively working with authorities as they investigate the situation and provided the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened about the events that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, August 8, 2025, at our Point Place branch in Toledo, Ohio.
