Lorain officer released from hospital after shot in ambush

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Lorain Police Officer Brent Payne was released from Cleveland MetroHealth after he was shot multiple times during an ambush earlier this week.

According to a release from Lorain Police Department (LPD), Ofc. Payne is recovering at home with friends and family.

Officer Peter Gale is also recovering after breaking his hand during the shooting.

Officer Phillip Wagner died on Thursday from injuries sustained during the ambush.

Officers from Lorain and all over northeast Ohio lined hospital halls to honor Ofc. Payne as he was discharged. He was also given a police escort home.

LPD also thanked the community for their support during this tragic time.

“While we are not out of the woods yet, your unwavering support has given us the strength and determination to move forward with the wind at our backs,” the release said.
