FINDLAY, Ohio (WTVG) — With the government shutdown becoming the longest in history and SNAP benefits in limbo, Logan’s Irish Pub in Findlay is stepping up to help local families.
The restaurant is providing free meals to children on SNAP benefits, no questions asked, as federal food assistance remains uncertain during the shutdown.
“It’s just a way for us to give back to the community, when they’ve given us so much over the last 15 years,” said Brennan Logan, general manager of Logan’s Irish Pub.
There is no purchase necessary and no limit on the number of children per family.
“No purchase necessary, just come in with proof of SNAP/EBT and there’s no limit to, you know, you can come in with your three children, four children, however many children you have,” Logan said.
The restaurant provides one meal per child per day.
Logan said more than 2,600 children use SNAP benefits in Hancock County.
Rather than accepting donations for their own effort, Logan’s Irish Pub is asking people to pay it forward by supporting other local organizations.
“Donate to your local food banks, whether it’s non-perishables or whatever you know, just you can find that online where your local food banks are and there’s a lot of churches around the area that do meals and things like that,” Logan said.
Since starting the program on Nov. 1, when SNAP benefits were set to be paused, the restaurant has served about 25 children.
Logan said the pub remains committed to helping children in need while hoping the shutdown doesn’t persist.
“It’s important that the kids don’t suffer from this either; no one should be suffering from it, but it’s important that the kids get meals too,” Logan said.
