Local DECA chapter involved in international competition, public can vote to show support

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Voting is now underway for an international DECA competition and you can help support local students who are involved.

Students from the Penta-Maumee DECA chapter, or Distributive Education Clubs of America, created videos as part of a competition that the public can now vote on.

As part of the Ethical Leadership Challenge, groups are tasked with creating a public service announcement about fairness, rule of law or transparency.

The local students have been researching the employment struggle for businesses while also digging into the ethics of a lack of employment opportunities for formerly incarcerated people.

“We learned, especially in the past few years, where companies are struggling to get employees that second-chance hiring is a great opportunity for the companies and for the justice impacted individuals,” said Alexander Dolder, a senior in the Penta-Maumee DECA chapter.

The students partnered with the Ridge Project, a group committed to breaking generational incarceration, to film and submit three PSAs.

Now they’re looking to move on to the next step. You can watch the videos and vote in the competition through Dec. 16. Find the links below.
