FREMONT, Ohio (WTVG) – Fremont currently doesn’t have a bookstore, so a local author is turning the page and opening her own.
You could say this is a new chapter for local author and mom Olivia Jenkins.
“There was so many people that were like, we need a bookstore, we need this here, this is an amenity that we don’t have,” Jenkins said.
As a book lover, Jenkins was a part of that crowd wishing there was a bookstore in Fremont.
She says locals have to drive to other counties to find a bookstore, or go to a superstore like Walmart to make their book purchases.
Jenkins and her husband are working to rehab what was once a party store on Front Street in downtown Fremont to create Lit and Lore, the bookstore she’s always wanted.
“I’m pretty sure it was a dream when I was a child, but it became a lot more prevalent in my adult years,” Jenkins said.
As they work on putting the storefront together, Jenkins has been doing pop-ups and selling books at farmers’ markets.
Inside the brick-and-mortar store, she’s working to stock the shelves with the latest releases, classics, and books for people of all ages.
“People that love books and love reading can walk in the door and feel like this place was meant for them,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins said there is a book for every situation and every person. More than a bookstore, Jenkins hopes to create a community.
“That’s the best part of a bookstore, is I want them to come in and know me as a person,” Jenkins said. “I want to know them as a person so I can recommend ‘oh, last week you read this book, how about this one, you should give this one a try.’”
She’s already scheduling events like book clubs and author signings. Customers will be able to buy popular new books the day they are released.
Jenkins said the back of Lit and Lore will have a space for students to do homework.
As for Lit and Lore Bookstore’s launch date, Jenkins hopes that it will be in October.
