Judge recommends $6.5 million award in Stone Foltz lawsuit against fraternity president

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVG) – A Franklin County magistrate is recommending an award of more than $6.5 million to the estate of Stone Foltz.

Foltz was a 20-year-old sophomore at Bowling Green State University when he died in 2021 following an off-campus hazing incident involving the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

The Foltz estate was requesting $88 million, but state law caps how much can be awarded.

The $6.5 million penalty would be imposed on Daylen Dunson, who was the fraternity president at the time of Foltz’s death.

The Foltz family said they don’t expect to actually collect the money, but they pushed for a hefty amount to send a message about the consequences of hazing.
