TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A missing passport in Toledo is turning into a bit of an international incident.
That passport started in Dublin, Ireland and should have been here by now. Now the woman with her name on it is worried about who might have her personal information.
The passport looks to be close. It came to at least Detroit but the tracking on it has gone cold leaving lots of concern.
In a few years Patricia Donnelly hopes to trade the snow of Northwest Ohio for the shores of Ireland.
“I am looking to retire to Ireland at some point. And I thought I might as well get it done now,” said Donnelly.
The Irish government approved her for a passport. It left Dublin in early November. It got to New York and in metro Detroit at the mail sorting facility but now it’s nowhere to be found.
She uses the post office on Glendale Avenue in Toledo by Arlington Avenue. She assumed it would end up here and then at her home as a registered piece of mail. “It’s unsettling. I’ve talked to some people that have had an experience with the U.S. Postal Service with the same issue with Irish passports and some of them have never arrived. I hope I am not going to be in that category,” said Donnelly.
Postal workers here have helped her with a missing mail report that’s underway. The longer her information is out there, the more worried she gets. “I’ve been a victim of identity theft before but not to this international extent,” said Donnelly.
Turns out an Irish passport is very valuable. According to the Henley Passport Index the Irish passport is the third most valuable and you can get into 191 countries worldwide without a visa by using it. Donnelly only has her eyes on one and hopefully she’ll have the documentation to do it.
She could report it lost to the Irish government but that will be a bigger paperwork hassle. The I-TEAM has spoken with a representative for the US Postal Service. So far no word on where that investigation stands.
