TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Metroparks Toledo has announced that Holidays at the Manor House is returning for the 50th anniversary of Wildwood Preserve Metropark.
Holidays at the Manor House will run from Dec. 7 through Dec. 15 and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission to the Manor House, located at 5100 Central Ave., is free.
According to Metroparks Toledo, this fall marks the 50th anniversary of the election where Lucas County voters approved the purchase of the private estate in West Toledo to establish Wildwood as the ninth Metropark.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary, organizers say the grand foyer of the Manor House will be decorated in a birthday theme celebrating Wildwood over the past five decades.
“Volunteers first decorated the house for the holidays in December, 1976 as a thank you to the community that supported the acquisition of the property,” said Metroparks Toledo in a press release. “Ever year since then, Holidays at the Manor House has continued to attract visitors to view over 30 displays created by individuals, families, businesses and non-profit organizations.”
Metroparks Toledo says the event has grown to include carriage rides and a s’more shack on the two weekends of the event and holiday lights on the grounds.
One constant attraction has been the large model train display by the Swanton Area Railroad and Model Club, which now occupies nearby Metroparks Hall.
According to organizers, there will also be a Mitten Tree at the event which is decorated with visitors’ donations of child-size hats, scarves and mittens. Visitors can bring donations with them when they tour the house, and the clothing will be distributed to Toledo Public Schools.
