LANSING, Mich. (WILX) LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Former Attorney General Mike Cox has announced his run for governor.
Cox, a Republican, served as Michigan’s Attorney General from 2003 to 2011.
In his campaign announcement, Cox detailed several priorities for his potential administration, including ending Right to Work, ending “DEI mandates” in government and schools, cutting spending through DOGE and overhauling public education.

“Michigan is getting weaker, poorer, and less free under Gretchen Whitmer,” the Republican said.
“While she grows the government, families are crushed by taxes, regulations, and woke priorities. Too many of our children are leaving. Enough is enough. I’m running to fight for Michigan families. I will eliminate the income tax—what I call the tax on work—restore Right to Work, and return power to Michigan’s workers, families, and small businesses.”
Cox was the first Republican to serve as AG in nearly 50 years at the time of his election. He served under Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm.
Cox joins the ever-growing list of Michigan politicians running for Governor, including multiple Democrats currently holding statewide office.
