Extended Holiday Hours at the Ice Skating Ribbon

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – As the winter season officially begins this weekend, how about some ice skating?

The Ice Ribbon at Glass City Metropark saw 50,000 visitors last season, and numbers this year are already doing better than they were this time in 2023!

“It has exceeded all of our expectations, all of our projected numbers,” Mike Keedy, director of enterprise development for Metroparks Toledo, said. “I really think it’s the unique ice skating trail, it’s ice skating done Metroparks way.”

You can bring your own skates, but they also have 500 pairs of hockey and figure skates available to rent. You can also find food, drinks, music, and lights, all around the 1,000-foot-long ice trail.

“There’s less than 10 ice ribbons like this around the country. The closest one is South Bend, Indiana, so we get a lot of people from our local community of course,” Keedy said. “We have also seen from 27 or 28 different states.”

The staff here at the Ice Ribbon are now gearing up for the busiest stretch of the season as kids get out of school for the holiday break, and you’ll have more opportunities to stop by.

“We’re going to be open for extended hours from Dec. 19 through Jan. 4: 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. every day,” Keedy said.

Plus, if we get enough snow on Friday, they might open up the sledding hill this weekend.

“During the holidays when your family is in town, when you’re gathering, when you’re looking for things to do, kids are home from school, come spend a few hours out here,” Keedy said. “Take some laps around the ice-skating trail, have dinner at the garden, really just take in the festive atmosphere that we have out here.”
