Escape room for history buffs: ‘Spies and Secrets of the Revolution’

‘Spies and Secrets of the Revolution’ puts your puzzle-solving skills to the test.

MAUMEE, Ohio — History aficionados, or even just those who enjoy besting a good puzzle, will want to listen up: the Maumee Valley Historical Society is holding an “escape room” experience at one of Maumee’s most historic landmarks.

“Secrets & Spies of the Revolution” is a historically-themed escape room featuring puzzles, history and a secret mission with you, the participant, at its center. Like other escape rooms, you and your team will be tasked with decoding secret messages and clues before time runs out. Unlike other escape rooms, this one is set during the American Revolution.

Participants will be “locked” in the basement of the Wolcott House, according to the historical society’s webpage for the event, and will face the arduous task of freeing themselves in order to deliver a critical message to General George Washington before time runs out.

The escape room itself will be held at the Wolcott Heritage Center on Sept. 20. Two sessions will be offered: one at 7 p.m. and another at 8:15 p.m. Each session lasts one hour. The event is recommended for participants ages 12 and older.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here
