Elementary school students share lunch with TPD cadets

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Members of the Toledo Police Department’s Academy class took a trip to Navarre Elementary School Friday to train with younger members of our community.

The soon-to-be sworn-in officers got to have lunch with the students and have some recess time.

Organizers said it is an effort to create new connections.

“They have young officers that are coming, the cadets that are coming through, and they may eventually see these kids later on in life, interact with their families, and so for them to get this experience early on allows them to be more peacemakers inside the communities. And then to see the little kid come out of the officers, they’re playing football with the kids and throwing the football around, it’s just a joy to have,” Navarre Elementary principal, Ward Barnett, said.
