Dundee wrestling team under investigation

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Police say they have turned over evidence in the case of several Dundee High School wrestlers accused of hazing and violating a teammate.

The alleged incident happened at a hotel during a wrestling tournament in Kalamazoo last year, but it wasn’t reported until this year.

The teen who was assaulted supposedly told his mother about this, but the young man’s father said it was never reported to police for fear of the kids retaliating.

“There was Snapchat group texts where like videos and pictures were taken of my son with his pants off after what had happened to him and it was dispersed throughout the entire team and nobody said a word,” said the father, who we can’t identify because he claims his son was sexually assaulted.

The father of the alleged victim wants the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Office to press criminal charges against the Dundee High School wrestlers.

According to a letter, the school has launched a Title IX investigation.

“So to hear that something like that goes on at a school function, I was enraged,” the father said.

Dundee High School’s wrestling season came to a halt after allegations surfaced.

The father said at least three boys on the team were involved in the inappropriate behavior.

“It was a sexual assault. They held my son down, ripped his pants off and tried to insert something in his rectum,” the father said.

Dundee police are working with the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators turned over evidence they say was recorded on cell phones.

The father said he’s getting calls from other parents claiming this is the culture of the wrestling team.

“There was video evidence, text message evidence, and no other parents in that wrestling organization are willing to prosecute and I think it’s for fear of their kids being blacklisted,” the father said.

The father said Dundee High School’s wrestling team is the best team in the state of Michigan across all four divisions.

“There’s more to life the sports and I’m not willing to put my kid’s safety on the back burner for a wrestling program,” the father said.

Kalamazoo detectives said they can’t release any information on the case because they are just starting to investigate.

Meanwhile, the alleged victim is finishing school online right now, and he’s planning to attend school in Ohio this fall.
