TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Dundee community packed the community center at the Old Mill to hear from data center developers Wednesday.
Many voiced concerns about the proposed project.
“So data centers do create significant jobs, significant revenue and benefit the community with really what we believe is minimal impacts,” Aaron Bilyeu, the Chief Development Officer at Cloverleaf Infrastructure, said.
Residents listened and learned about the details of a possible data center joining the town.
“I cannot afford my utility bills as they are; I cannot afford any additional increases in my utilities,” one resident told the village council.
The informational forum was also an opportunity for residents to get up close to Cloverleaf Infrastructure leaders.
But many community members still have concerns.
“Our kids shouldn’t have to live in a community where we have to worry about water, high electric bills, we shouldn’t have to worry about the air quality that we have,” Nancy Vandevelde, a resident, said.
However, others, including union members, want the project.
“They’re good-paying union jobs, for hundreds of electricians, plus opportunities for apprentices starting out making this a career with full benefits, pensions a lot of man-hours on these projects,” Jacob Meyers, a Business Representative with IBW Local 8, said.
The potential new data center in Dundee Township would sit on 750 acres of land. Data center developers said they’ll negotiate and follow all rules and ordinances.
Developers also highlighted the possible economic impacts when it comes to property values that would benefit Dundee and Monroe County.
“At fully constructed, $8 to $10 billion dollars and on the low side of $1 to $2 billion and that there is some property tax abatement of roughly 50% which is common, again all to be negotiated,” Bilyeu said.
No action was taken by the Dundee Village Council as the meeting was informational only.
