TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Toledo City Council members voted Wednesday to reject a special use permit to build a Sheetz on Airport Highway in Toledo.
Council rejected the permit in a 6-5 vote on Dec. 18. It comes after residents who live off Bernath and Airport voiced concerns about the proposed gas station and convenience store that would’ve replaced the buildings in the South Village Square.
Neighbors told 13 Action News earlier this month they didn’t feel the location was appropriate for a business that is always open and voiced concerns about traffic at the only access point to the neighborhood.
One neighbor submitted a petition to the planning commission. Sheetz previously told 13 Action News the company made changes to the designs in an effort to address community concerns.
Even still, council ultimately rejected the proposal.
A spokesperson for Sheetz issued the following statement regarding the decision:
“We are deeply disappointed by this outcome. Sheetz remains committed to expanding in the greater Toledo area and will be evaluating all available options for this location moving forward.”
