TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – What started as a contractor horror story is now becoming a dream come true. The change came after the 13 Action News I-TEAM exposed a contractor who allegedly took more than $30,000 from a local couple and left their home in rough shape.
Not only is the couple getting the help they need. The contractor who allegedly scammed them, Rodney Vaughn, is now being charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and there is a warrant out for his arrest.
It has been nearly two years since Todd and Jill Nidek’s home was damaged during the Point Place tornado. Now, a fix is finally coming.
“Words can’t express how grateful we are,” Jill Nidek said. “It makes us actually sometimes in a little bit of a pinch me state, you know? Like, are we going to have our house fixed?”
It is a huge change from how the couple was feeling just one month ago.
“I never wanted to get caught up in a contractor horror story and here we are, right smack in the middle of one,” Todd Nidek said.
That nightmare turned into a dream come true thanks to a local company.
“We want to help people. Our goal as a company is to leave things better than we found them,” Caleb Dudley, the operations manager with Integrity Home Exterior, said.
Integrity Home Exterior saw the I-TEAM’s story and stepped up to help.
“We saw it. We knew that we had to do something and so we reached out to see what was even possible,” Dudley said.
The company said it will fix the couple’s roof, siding, windows and more. The pricetag is whatever the couple has left in insurance dollars.
“Their name says it all. They have been fantastic. They’ve been on point,” Todd Nidek said. “I want this story to be about them helping the community.”
The company said once the materials for the project arrive, they hope to have the work completed within a week.
