Columbus Zoo welcomes 3rd penguin chick

This marks the third penguin birth in less than four weeks at the zoo.

POWELL, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s penguin colony at the Shores and Aquarium habitat is continuing to grow.

The zoo announced Friday that another penguin chick was born on March 13, making it the third penguin birth in less than four weeks.

The chick is the offspring of Malia and Bruce Banner.

Before being visible to guests, these newest chicks will go through “penguin preschool,” where they gain confidence and strength and learn a lot about life in the colony, including how to dive and swim in deeper water.

The other two baby penguins hatched right after Valentine’s Day on Feb. 18 and Feb. 20.

The first chick is the offspring of Big Bertha “BB” Cobblepot and Dr. Oswald Cobblepot. The second is the offspring of Asela Bellfontaine and Professor Phineas Sprinklebottom.
