Cardinal Mooney High School said a student is in stable condition after being shot following the school’s football game against Chardon at Stambaugh Stadium.
CLEVELAND — Cardinal Mooney High School says one of its students is recovering after being shot following a football game at Stambaugh Stadium on the campus of Youngstown State University.
In a Facebook post from the school, the Youngstown Catholic school said that the student was injured and taken straight to the hospital, where they are recovering in stable condition.
“The student’s family thanks you for your continued prayers for a full and speedy recovery,” the school said.
The shooting took place as fans were exiting Stambaugh Stadium after Cardinal Mooney’s home game against Chardon, the visiting district said in a Facebook post. Chardon High School Principal Adam Tomco reported that all Chardon players, cheerleaders, band members, coaches and staff were safe.
“At Cardinal Mooney, we place the safety and security of our students as the highest priority,” a statement from CMHS Principal Brenan R. Considine read. “We join everyone involved in expressing our prayers for healing for our entire school family and our community.”
3News has reached out to Youngstown police for more information about the incident.
