Brandon Lyons’ legacy lives on

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – He was a husband, a father and a paramedic. In March, 2024 he died after a battle with an aggressive cancer. The legacy of 38-year-old Brandon Lyons will live on through a scholarship and 13 Action News and the Yark Automotive Group are giving a helping hand.

Brandon Lyons’ wife Kelsey Lyons said her husband was so many thing to so many people.

“Brandon was larger than life. He had this boisterous laugh you could hear from a mile away,” Kelsey Lyons said.

He was a dad to five-year-old Emma and a paramedic, a profession that allowed him to do what Kelsey Lyons said he loved most.

“He loved helping people, that was his life mission. That is what his sole purpose on Earth was to do,” Kelsey Lyons said.

But the world turned upside down for the Lyons when he was diagnosed with glioblastoma.

“I just lost it right there in the doctor’s office. I was thinking we are in our thirties with a small child, I can’t los him. It was gut wrenching and so hard,” Kelsey Lyons said.

Brandon Lyons went through chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries. He lost his fight just over a year after he was diagnosed.

“You start to see all your plans for the future flash before our eyes and just be ripped away from your,” Kelsey Lyons said. “You have to take it one day at a time and fight and push through. Every day is a battle, every minute is a battle.”

Kelsey Lyons is focused on making sure Brandon Lyons’ giving spirit lives on. She is hoping to establish a scholarship for people who follow in his career path and 13 Action News and the Yark Automotive Group are helping to make that a reality by giving the Lyons a check for $1,300.

“It’s heartwarming and overwhelming just to continue his legacy of giving back and to give back to someone aspiring to be a paramedic, continuing their education. I know that is something that he would want and would fully support and would love just wholeheartedly,” Kelsey Lyons said.
