BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Workers at the Starbucks location on East Wooster Street in Bowling Green filed for union election Friday.
According got a press release from Starbucks Workers United, the organization representing baristas at unionized stores, the baristas at the East Wooster Street location filed the petition with the National Labor Relations Board.
Baristas at more than 580 Starbucks locations have already unionized, according to the press release. Workers allege Starbucks has failed to bargain with workers, and say the aim of unionization is to “win workplace protections on core issues like living wages, respect, racial and gender equity, and fair scheduling.”
“Most of my adult life has been spent behind the counter of a Starbucks,” said barista Emmi Marks in a press release. “I love my job and I would not be the person I am today without it, but the company has shown time and time again that we are ‘partners’ in name only. I am joining the union because Starbucks leadership needs to realize that the green apron partners are the foundation of the company and we deserve a say in our working conditions.”
Many Starbucks baristas went on strike in late 2024, prompting at least 59 stores to close.
