BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (WTVG) – Inside Sunset Bistro, the tables are set and the soup is hot.
“Well, we were trying to think of something we could do for the community and for those that need some help with food, and so we thought we would start off with some soup,” said Prudy Brott, owner of the restaurant at 1220 W Wooster St, Bowling Green, OH.
With food insecurity a talk of the town, Brott decided to launch “Free Soup Tuesdays.”
“Maybe you know somebody who needs some food or some help with and their meals this week, and soup might sound like a really good choice tonight,” added Brott.
Every Tuesday evening during the 7 o’clock hour, anyone can stop in for a free bowl of soup, no questions asked. This Tuesday was their first night. The soup of the evening was Pork and Beans.
“We have the means to do that. We’ve got a nice big kitchen. We have people who love to cook. We’ve got nice fresh ingredients, and there’s people who needs some help right now, so we thought we would start out with some soup, see how that goes with everyone, but we’ve got more ideas coming through from other people and just through talking with our staff and different things that we’ll be able to do in the future,” said Brott.
She added that she wants to be able to support those facing food insecurity, even if it’s something they’re not ready to talk about.
“I also know that it’s a really difficult time for people to reach out and say I do need help, but we’re trying to make it as easy as possible and as accessible as we can,” said Brott.
