Target and Bittersweet Farms will host a sensory-friendly holiday shopping event on Nov. 12 to support individuals in the local autism and neurodiversity community.
WHITEHOUSE, Ohio — An annual event is returning for another year to offer an inclusive shopping experience for everyone in the community during the holiday season.
“The holiday season is a time of joy and connection, but traditional shopping environments can present sensory challenges for many neurodiverse individuals,” Bittersweet Farms said in a press release. “To foster a more inclusive and welcoming experience, Bittersweet Farms is proud to partner once again with Target for the 9th Annual Sensory Friendly Holiday Shopping event.”
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Target stores in Rossford and Holland will open an hour early with sensory accessibility in mind. Music will be turned off, foot traffic will be limited and store lighting will be softened, creating a more comfortable experience for individuals with sensory processing differences, including those in the autism community.
Everyone is invited to attend this calm and supportive shopping environment to prepare for the holidays, Bittersweet said.
“This event is a celebration of neurodiversity and community. We’re honored to continue our partnership with Target to create a space where everyone can participate in the joy of holiday shopping,” Julie Champa, development director at Bittersweet Farms, said. “Inclusion means recognizing and valuing different sensory needs—and this event is one way we put that into practice.”
The event will take place from 7-8 a.m. on Nov. 12 at Target in Rossford, located at 9666 Old US 20, and the Holland location at 1465 E. Mall Drive.
Bittersweet Farms has served individuals with autism spectrum disorders since 1983 through innovative programs rooted in agriculture, culinary arts and life skills. With three locations in the state, Bittersweet also partners with community businesses throughout the year to create inclusive opportunities like these sensory-friendly holiday shopping events.
