More than 100 Big Lots stores are making a comeback across the U.S. in a wave of re-openings.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Big Lots stores in two northwest Ohio cities are returning – like they never left – with a new opening date.
The retailer – which mostly sells furniture, home decor and other items – previously stated high inflation and interest rates hurt the business as consumers pulled back on their home and seasonal product purchases.
Starting May 1, the company said it will reopen over 100 stores across several states.
The two locations listed below open on May 15:
- 3946 W. Alexis Rd., Toledo, OH 43623
- 1800 E. State St., Fremont, OH 43420

“We’re thrilled to bring the Big Lots! brand back to life by offering more deals than ever, lots of famous brands and a new apparel department for the entire family,” Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers, said in a press release. “We’re opening stores quickly so we can serve the community. We know the stores won’t be perfect to start, but each week we’ll add more new products as we build towards the grand opening celebration in the fall.”
In September 2024, Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after closing more than 400 stores within the same year.
Variety Wholesaler acquired more than 200 Big Lots stores as part of a deal in December 2024.
