The 2025 Toledo Go Red For Women luncheon is set for Feb. 27, aiming to raise awareness about heart health, particularly for women.

Nearly half of women ages 20 and older are living with some form of cardiovascular disease, the leading killer of women, according to the American Heart Association. CVD is the cause of one in three deaths in women each year.

WTOL 11 morning anchor Caylee Kirby will be a host for the 2025 Toledo Go Red for Women Luncheon, which will be held at the Glass City Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature a survivor’s story and a live auction.

The event supports the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative, which has been a driving force for heart health awareness and advocacy for more than two decades.

Hylant’s Lisa Hawker, a local advocate for women’s health, is the 2024-2025 volunteer chair of the Go Red for Women initiative in Toledo.

According to the American Heart Association, CVD claims more lives than all cancers combined and poses unique risks to women during life stages such as pregnancy and menopause. However, the American Heart Association emphasizes that the majority of cardiovascular issues can be prevented through education and lifestyle changes.

“As a busy professional, wife, mother, daughter, and friend, I recognize that women often put others first,” Hawker said in a press release. “Unlike many diseases, so many of the issues with heart health can be avoided or reduced if we just take care of ourselves and know the signs to look for when problems are arising. That is what inspired me to chair Go Red for Women this year — to raise that level of awareness and support for the women throughout our community.”

Hawker said she is committed to raising awareness, providing education and inspiring women to take control of their heart health.

“Through Go Red for Women, the American Heart Association encourages us to prioritize our own heart health,” she said. “I’m honored to lead this effort.”

Go Red for Women is a global initiative that aims to empower women to band together in the fight against heart disease. The movement has reached more than 50 countries, emphasizing prevention, early detection and education.

Nationally sponsored by CVS Health, the Toledo event is locally supported by Hylant and ProMedica, with additional contributions from Owens Corning, Designetics, Bowling Green State University and SSOE as STEM Goes Red sponsors.
