Alleged hit-and-run driver sought car repair donations for vehicle suspected in crime

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A woman who is now charged in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a teen appears to have sought public donations for repairs to the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident.

Adrian Police confirmed to the 13 Action News I-TEAM that the silver Chevy Cruze featured in two separate GoFundMe pages belongs to Felisha Madison, a woman now facing a felony charge in the crash that left Dakota Courington hospitalized for more than a year.

Investigators tell the I-TEAM that the Chevy Cruze shown in the fundraising pages was driven by Madison before and after the time of the crash.

Authorities would not reveal any additional details until further court proceedings play out, though the magistrate in the case said Wednesday the crash involved a silver Chevy Cruze.

“On or about August 9th of 2024, in the City of Adrian, County of Lenawee, State of Michigan, you did fail to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, where you were the driver of a silver Chevrolet Cruze sedan, who knew or had reason to believe that you had been involved in an accident upon Chestnut Street and Clinton Street,” the magistrate presiding over the case Wednesday said in part.

The fundraising pages were both created on February 24, 2025, months after the alleged hit-and-run in August of 2024. Both of them list the organizer as Felisha Madison. The narratives for both pages claim the organizer had engine trouble three weeks after purchasing the car.

Neither fundraising pages had any donations publicly listed as of August 2025.

After a year of treatment, Dakota is still recovering at Mott’s Children’s Hospital at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. His father told 13 Action News Dakota still can’t speak, but is showing signs of improvement.

Following the news of a break in the case, Jack told 13 Action News that he was grateful for the Adrian community who rallied support Dakota. Now the teen’s parents are asking the community for patience when it comes to the court proceedings for Madison.

“I feel bad for her to a certain point because I know at this point it’s, you know, it’s got to be hard to realize that you may be going to jail for a long time, but on the other hand, a lot of me, I’m glad it’s happened now and it’s over with so Dakota can get justice, too.” said Jack Courington. “Even though they did, she did what she did to him, she’s still a human being, and I do want people not to be aggressive towards her. Let the courts handle what they need to handle for it.”

Madison had her first court appearance Wednesday, where she sought the appointment of a public defender. She hasn’t yet entered a plea, but is due back in court for a bond hearing on Thursday.

The Courington family also has a GoFundMe set up to help pay for Dakota’s bills. To donate, CLICK HERE.
