1 killed, 2 injured in Lenawee County crash

The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of US-223 and Riga Highway in Riga Township.

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — One person was killed and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening in Lenawee County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of US-223 and Riga Highway in Riga Township.

The sheriff’s office said an Amazon delivery van, driven by a 25-year-old Perrysburg man, was traveling north on Riga Highway and stopped at the stop sign at US-223. 

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the Amazon van then went through the intersection to continue northbound on Riga Highway, but pulled in front of and was struck by a Ford Focus driven by a 69-year-old Adrian man.

The sheriff’s office said the 69-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The Ford’s passenger, a 63-year-old Adrian woman, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Amazon van was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the sheriff’s office, all involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
