Mike “The Miz” Mizanin has been set to host the American Gladiators reboot on Amazon‘s Prime Video.
The WWE and Real World alum will host the competition featuring an All-Star cast of Gladiators for the modern era. The competition will feature brand new events, as well as incorporate some classics from the original series like Gauntlet, Hang Tough, and The Eliminator.
“We’re excited to officially welcome WWE Superstar Mike ‘The Miz’ Mizanin to the American Gladiators Family,” said Barry Poznick, general manager MGM Alternative, Evolution Media and Big Fish Entertainment. “He’s the perfect host for the new era of this iconic franchise.”
The featured Gladiators on the upcoming series will range from professional bodybuilders, former D1 athletes, pro crossfit champions and pro fitness trainers from around the globe all ecstatic to put their abilities to the test.
Deadline reported in June 2024 that Prime Video had ordered a reboot of the classic competition following the success of the reboot in the U.K. by the BBC.
In addition to the reboot, original seasons of the series are available to stream on the newly launched American Gladiators’ FAST Channel on Prime Video FAST.
Live Nation also launched the Gladiators Live Tour in the UK, a live-action immersive entertainment event that will run from November 1 to December 21, 2025.
Poznick noted that the revival of American Gladiators “isn’t just a comeback, it’s a cultural revival,” adding, “Fans, old and new, are going to love this evolution in sports entertainment.”
American Gladiators originally launched in syndication and aired weekly between 1989 and 1996. The series was created by Johnny C. Ferraro after he and Dan Carr came up with the original concept for the competition event.
The show was rebooted by NBC in 2008, during that year’s writers’ strike, with Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali hosting. It ran for two seasons and was produced by MGM Television and Reveille.
