Man indicted for an alleged armed robbery at Papa John’s in Toledo


TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A man who was arrested for an alleged armed robbery at a Papa John’s in Toledo has been indicted.

A Lucas County grand jury indicted Douglas Smith, 55, on April 21. He is facing two counts of Aggravated Robbery, four counts of Robbery and one count of Attempted Robbery.

According to court records, on March 18, Smith walked into the Papa John’s on Dorr Street wearing a Burger King uniform. He allegedly walked up to the counter and told an employee “I do not want to hurt you. I have a weapon. Don’t press any buttons and give me the money.” Police say he left the restaurant with approximately $500 in cash.

Smith was arrested on April 9 after the U.S. Marshals Service reached out to the public for help with locating him.
