Bowling Green Hockey Set for Penultimate Series of Regular Season



BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (15-10-4, CCHA 11-7-4) will travel to Bemidji, Minn., to take on the Bemidji State Beavers (11-15-4, CCHA 8-11-3) with crucial CCHA points in play. The Orange and Brown will be looking for their first regulation win against the Beavers this season.

Match-Up History 

The Falcons lead the all-time series with a 21-19-4 record. Both teams have met in every season at least once since the 2012-13 season. BGSU will be looking for their first win in Bemidji, Minn., since March 4, 2022, when the Falcons won 2-1. In that game, now seniors Ryan O’Hara and Brayden Krieger scored to give the Falcons a game one win in the CCHA Mason Cup Quarterfinals.

Opponent Outlook

  • The first two meetings each went into overtime with BGSU earning three points over the weekend with an overtime win in game one and then a shootout loss in game two.
  • Junior Adam Flammang recorded five points in the series (1g-4a) while senior Jere Vaisanen (2g-1a) and junior Kirklan Irey (1g-2a) each added three.
  • The Beavers are one of the smallest in Division I. They are tied for third in DI for the smallest by height averaging 5’11.6″ and the smallest by weight averaging 178.9 pounds.
  • Irey leads the Beavers in points with 22, while Eric Martin leads the team in goals with 10 

Falcon Facts 

  • Sophomore Brody Waters is currently tied for the CCHA in goals with 14 on the season as well as leading in power-play goals with nine. Waters, nine goals on the power-play also are tied for the NCAA lead . The sophomore is also tied for top 10 in the NCAA in goals.
  • Senior Christian Stoever has been spectacular in his 13 starts so far this season for the Falcons. In his first full series back from injury, against the Northern Michigan Wildcats, the senior collected 48 saves on 53 shots faced. The Northville, Mich., native is currently first in the NCAA and the CCHA in save percentage at .948. Stoever is currently leading the CCHA in saves per game at 30.92.
  • The last time these two teams met the series was split with the Falcons taking the first game in overtime by a score of 4-4 and the Beavers taking the extra point in a shootout victory. In the first game, senior Ryan O’Hara scored the overtime game-winner on a 2 on 1 situation that helped to spark a recent scoring streak for the senior captain that has extended over the past month.
  • For the Falcons, there is potential that this weekend series against Bemidji State along with others in the conference could create a situation the to clinch home ice advantage for the CCHA Mason Cup Quarterfinals. Any combination of BGSU points and St. Thomas and Lake Superior State dropped points equaling to six will result in a clinch for the Falcons.
  • Junior Jaden Grant has skated in 99 games in his collegiate career, all with Bowling Green. He will have the potential to skate in his 100th career game against the Beavers.
