Family pleading for public’s help getting answers in fatal Toledo club shooting

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – It’s been almost three years since a man was shot and killed outside of a club in Toledo and his family is pleading for the public’s help.

The family of James Owens says waiting for answers is agonizing, but they believe this case can be solved with your help.

“Life without him has just been a big 180 for everybody. Even you can tell the conversation about him makes me emotional. It’s just because we miss him so much,” Deonta Owens, James’ cousin said.

James Owens’ family wants answers as to who killed him. Owens was fatally shot outside the Recovery Room in the 2800 block of Airport Highway in Aug. 2022. The coroner says he died from a gunshot wound to the head. He was just 42.

Investigators say victims were found in the parking lot and in a vehicle at the Circle K on Airport. They survived the shooting.

Owens’ mother is heartbroken. She cried as she thought about how the community could help bring justice to the family.

“Let’s not normalize being silent. Let’s normalize coming to the forefront and doing the right thing,” Deonta Owens said.

Owens’ family described him as the life of the party and giving.

“Everybody wanted to turn up with him. Everybody loved him but now that he’s here, where is love?” Tiffany Parker, James’ fiancée said.

Police say they have no new leads or suspects. Anyone with information can text or call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
