Woman charged in T-Town Bonsai fire

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – It’s been six months since a business on North Holland Sylvania Road caught on fire. The city of Toledo had to tear down the building.

Residents have called Engaged Toledo at least 15 times and they told 13 Action News they are tired of looking at all the debris.

Last year in August T-Town Bonsai caught on fire. Now, residents want the property cleaned up.

“Now scrappers have gone through. Picked out what they wanted and now people are taking tires, mattresses chairs, and they’re taking everything over there, dumping it. It’s just a big eyesore,” said Ron Cousino who lives in the neighborhood.

The debris may have to stay there until the criminal case against Regan Amato is over.

Amato was indicted in November of 2024 on two counts of aggravated arson.

According to a court document, investigators said she intentionally set fire to the place.

Residents told 13 Action News they’ve called the city hoping it would get cleaned up.

“I’ve called engaged to them multiple times and they say they’re working on it that’s it,” said Cousino.

A city spokesperson said the rubble is still there because it took city administrators some time to get a contact set up to address several fire emergency clean-ups. The spokesperson said the city must follow strict EPA guidelines and weather also plays a part in the cleanup.

They expect the cleanup to begin in 12-15 weeks.

City leaders said they know these areas can be a haven for dumping the longer they sit. They said they are working as quickly as possible to address residents concerns
