Tonight on Saturday Night Live, Bowen Yang and Ego Nwodim hosted “the CIBO Express Christmas Week Airport Parade,” live from Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport.
“It’s chaos, it’s mayhem, and everyone’s afraid,” sing their TSA agent characters. “It’s the Christmas Week Airport Parade!”
“Good evening from Newark,” says Nwodim, “which is how you say ‘New York’ if you’re on pills, which I am.”
Nwodim introduces herself as Agent Chartreuse Hamilton; Bowen, as Umberto.
“Umberto, what kind of name is that?” asks Chartreuse.
“Well, my parents were unsure about naming me Berto,” he responds, “so they told the nurse, ‘Um, Berto?’”
“Love,” Chartreuse replies. “Umberto, who can we expect to see on the parade route this year?”
Umberto says there will be “some new appearances,” as well as the return of “some old classics,” with Chartreuse then going on to introduce “a nervous flyer whose edible kicked in too early.”
“Uh, a thousand milligrams is low, right?” asks a nervous Andrew Dismukes. “Because that’s just one gram, right?”
“Wrong,” deadpans Umberto, “but I’ll have what he’s having.”
Chartreuse shares that she already did, with Umberto admitting, “Girl, I hate that you’re my ride home,” before introducing “a woman who’s saving her stinky meal for the flight,” played by Sarah Sherman.
Subsequently, Martin Short appears as “Kenton Bean, the overly aggressive Delta Lounge employee,” who teases that the lounge has got “the most beautiful buffet you’ve ever been to, if you’ve never been to a buffet.”
Others stopping in include a TSA employee who says the same thing 12 different ways (Kenan Thompson), a woman who accidentally sat down on a motorized suitcase (Kristen Wiig), Paul Rudd (playing himself), a white woman who’s going to somehow make the flight about her (Chloe Fineman), three employees from XpresSpa (Michael Longfellow, Ashley Padilla, and Devon Walker), a woman who wants to join the mile high club (Heidi Gardner) and her boyfriend who does not (Emil Wakim), a gate agent who’s having trouble with the names (Melissa McCarthy), the parade grand marshall, Captain Sully (Tom Hanks), and a group (including Marcello Hernandez) that just got cheap cosmetic work done in Turkey.
Short hosts tonight’s episode, with Hozier as musical guest. For video of the sketch, check back later.
