TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Perrysburg School Board is set to further discuss budget cuts and possibly even bring some of them to a vote Monday night.
It comes after voters rejected the district’s latest operating levy on the November ballot. School board members held a special meeting last Thursday and spent nearly four hours discussing the budget reduction plan for the next school year.
We could get a clearer picture about the district’s financial health, including the possibility of seeing another levy request in 2025, at the meeting Monday night. It’s scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Commodore building on East Indiana Avenue.
“There are the kinds of things we would have to do to fill that void,” Superintendent Tom Hosler said last week. “And now, our funding has been cut by 17% so we don’t even have the funds to operate the buildings we have.”
District leaders said at the last meeting they’re looking to reach about $6 million in reductions to save money. The reductions could impact student’s fees to participate in extracurriculars. 61 teaching positions, athletic programs, transportation and technology all face cuts. Six custodial positions are also set to be cut, which would impact the hours that school buildings are open.
