TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – 13 Action news is On Your Side working to help residents get a home on Albert Street cleaned up after they say it’s become infested with roaches.
“Well, it’s for everybody in the neighborhoods safety. You just can’t have all of this bugs and roaches running the neighborhood,” said a neighbor.
People who live on the 1000 block of Albert Street are fed up with a rental home. They say it’s infested with roaches.
Neighbors say the nine people who lived in the home were evicted.
Friday morning, Toledo’s blight team came to remove items left on the curb.
“Roaches literally coming off the mattresses, furniture in the street from the curb, the grass all the way into the garbage truck, and they were everywhere. Once they were done dumping the stuff, we were all spraying around the houses in the street,” said a neighbor.
The City of Toledo’s director of code compliance spoke with the property manager. They say the property manager claims an exterminator is addressing the roach infestation.
A dumpster was dropped off Friday.
“If you got millions of roaches on the outside, wait until you go on the inside. Then on the back porch there’s a bag of garbage that full of roaches. It’s a health concern for everybody over here in this area,” said a neighbor.
A spokesperson for the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department tells 13 Action News they are aware of the cockroach issues at 1048 Albert St.
Health inspectors were out there this past week and plan to revisit next week.
“The landlord that owns the property should be complete responsible for everything around here spraying taking care of the situation even the neighbors because it’s not their fault. It’s the landlord not checking up on the tenants and let it go where it went to.”
The property manager told 13 Action News he hears the concerns neighbors have and is working to clean up the house.
A city spokesperson says they will continue work with the property manager as long as there is progress in improving the property.
