Toledo Adding Transfer Rodney Johnson Jr. for 2025-26 Season

TOLEDO, Ohio – Head coach Tod Kowalczyk announced Monday that 6-foot-5, 220-pound forward Rodney Johnson Jr. (Bryan, Texas) will transfer to the University of Toledo to join the Rockets’ men’s basketball program next season. Johnson has one year of eligibility remaining after playing the last two seasons at Tennessee Tech.

“Rodney is a very physical forward and the analytics were really good with him,” Kowalczyk said. “He’s a guy that can finish around the basket and step out and shoot threes. Rodney is also an efficient rebounder, but the biggest thing about him I just love is his maturity, character and leadership. He’s a mature guy and I am excited to welcome him and his wife Jenny to our program.”

Johnson was Tennessee Tech’s second-leading scorer and rebounder last season, averaging 13.0 ppg and 5.8 rpg in 25.7 mpg. He shot 51.0% from the field, including a 40.2 mark (33-of-82) from behind the three-point arc. Johnson registered his lone double-double with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds at Western Illinois (Dec. 17) in the Golden Eagles’ Ohio Valley Conference opener. As a junior, Johnson averaged 10.7 ppg and 5.1 rpg and ranked second on the team with 25 blocked shots in 26.8 mpg.

A 2021 graduate of Travis B. Bryan (Texas) High School, Johnson earned all-region honors after averaging 21.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg as a senior.
