Wetzel Recognized as MIVA Offensive and Defense Player of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Junior Shane Wetzel led the No. 15 Buckeyes to a sweep at Quincy last weekend with his efforts leading to a pair of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association weekly awards. 

Wetzel repeated as the MIVA Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Jose Vargas of Lindenwood this week, and earned the defensive honor as well after 3-0 and 3-1 wins over the Hawks. 

In the two matches, Wetzel recorded 40 kills, 20 in each outing, for an average of 5.71 kills per set. He also added two aces and 20 digs in the wins while hitting .378. 

The Buckeyes are the No. 3 seed in the 2025 MIVA Tournament this week. Ohio State will face No. 6 Lindenwood at 5 p.m. Saturday in Columbus. For ticket information, to go OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
