Buckeyes Compete in ITA Sectionals This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s tennis team will be in action this weekend at the ITA Sectional Championship in Ann Arbor, Michigan. 

Competing in singles at the ITA Sections are Jack Anthrop, Nikita Filin, Alex Okonkwo, Loren Byers, Alexander Bernard, Brandon Carpico and Bryce Nakashima. Doubles teams of Bernard/Okonkwo, Anthrop/Stearns and Carpico/Filin also will represent the Buckeyes. 

The 2025 ITA Sectional Championships will have a draw size of the following, (Singles: 32) (Doubles: 16). From this, six singles players from each section (24) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists, two quarterfinal playoff winners). Meanwhile, three doubles teams from each section (12) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Sectional Championships (champion, finalist, third place). The NCAA Individual Championships are scheduled for Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Florida.

Connor Smillie/Jakub Vrba (ARK) vs. Alexander Bernard/Alex Okonkwo (OSU)

  • Both Aidan Kim and Preston Stearns have already qualified for the NCAA Individual championships. 
  • Kim earned a spot as a finalist at the 2025 ITA All American Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma (9/20-28)
  • Stearns qualified with an appearance in the finals at the 2025 ITA Midwest Regional Oct. 16-20 in Chicago
  • Ohio State’s doubles team of Kim and Nakashima qualified for the NCAA Championships with the title at the Midwest Regionals
