COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Rifle Team completed a busy weekend of competition starting last Thursday with a weekday home match with Alaska and Air Force followed by the PRC Championship Match over the weekend in Fort Wayne, Ind.
On Thursday the Buckeyes competed at home against Alaska Fairbanks (4753) and Air Force (4707) and fired a team score of 4704 led by Derek Keiser, who finished with a team best aggregate score of 1177. In smallbore the team fired a score of 2334 led by Lilly Warren’s 585. The rest of the counting team put together strong performances with Derek Keiser (584), Ella Sprague (583), John Hamilton (582), and Paige Hollowell (579) rounding out team scoring. Nate Wehrlen fired his highest score of the season posting a 580 to lead Ohio State’s individuals while Andrew Duross (572), Eva Horgan (569), and Summer Lytle (568) rounded out individual scoring in smallbore. In air rifle the team fired a score of 2370 led by a career best equaling 596 from Paige Hollowell. Derek Keiser (593), Ella Sprague (592), John Hamilton(589), and Lilly Warren (587) rounded out team scoring in air rifle. Summer Lytle fired a career best 591 to lead Ohio State’s individuals while Eva Horgan (588), Andrew Duross (585), and Nate Wehrlen (578) rounded out individual scoring in air rifle.
On Saturday and Sunday the team traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana to compete in the 2025 Patriot Rifle Conference Championship Match. The team placed 6th with a score of 4694. Alaska Fairbanks were crowed Conference Champions with a score of 4758 followed by Ole Miss (4746), TCU (4732), Air Force (4706), Nebraska (4699), and UTEP 4670.
In smallbore the team posted a score of 2328 led by Derek Keiser who fired a 586. He was followed closely by Lilly Warren (584), Paige Hollowell (580), John Hamilton (578), and Ella Sprague (577). Eva Horgan led Ohio State’s individual performers with a 576 followed by Andrew Duross (572) and Summer Lytle (564). In air rifle the team was led by Derek Keiser and Paige Hollowell who fired 594 and 593 respectively. They were followed by Ella Sprague (591), John Hamilton (588), and Lilly Warren (586) who rounded out team scoring. Eva Horgan equaled her highest career aggregate for the 4th time this season after firing a 589 to lead Ohio State’s air rifle individuals. She was followed by Andrew Duross (585) and Summer Lytle (581).
Coach Tanoue: “The team continues to put in the work as we work toward the NCAA Qualifier in two weeks. We know that the potential is there for us as a group and it’s really a matter of putting all the pieces together on the same day. We’ll have our final regular season opportunity to do just that this coming weekend as we travel to MIT.”
The Buckeyes return to action at MIT in Cambridge, MA on Sunday, February 16th.
