Voters overwhelmingly pass Perrysburg Schools levy

PERRYSBURG, Ohio (WTVG) – Perrysburg Schools’ operating levy overwhelmingly passed Tuesday, reversing last year’s failed attempt that resulted in more than 50 position cuts.

The five-year emergency operating levy will generate approximately $11 million each year for the district. Last fall, voters rejected a previous operating levy, creating a $13 million annual loss for the district.

Supporters said they wanted to fund schools and avoid additional cuts. Some voters opposed to the levy declined to speak on camera, though one voter said she did not understand the business aspects of the proposal.

Spending has been a topic of interest among voters throughout the campaign, but the district says this levy asks for less money than the previous proposal and is designed to maintain existing district operations rather than expand services.

“I think when a district can give taxpayers this kind of a bargain and really be spending less than the state average, not only per pupil but also for administration, spending the bulk of our money on student instruction, I think that tells taxpayers what they needed to know and they heard our message,” said Perrysburg interim superintendent Dr. Kadee Anstadt.

Dr. Anstadt said the positions that were cut earlier this year will not be replaced, but she does not expect any additional cuts.
